Bloomsbury Fashion Central is an online platform for fashion educators, students, researchers and professionals that delivers instant access to articles, textbooks, multi-media learning resources and iconic images in fashion, textiles and related fields. The site is fully cross-searchable on all content and users can organize their content personally within their account.
Over 130 digital textbooks available for purchase and rental, with integrated resources for both students and instructors including personalized assessment, video and study tools, and easy access to inspection copies and instructor materials. Fairchild Books covers a broad range of subject areas in fashion, including textiles, design foundations, retailing, visual merchandising, color theory, drawing and presentation, and sustainability.
Berg Fashion Library
The multi-award winning Berg Fashion Library is the leading online scholarly resource for dress and fashion. Updated at least three times a year, it gives users access to an expanding range of essential articles, including seminal classic and modern pieces, primary sources and commentary; images from partners such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; lesson plans and bibliographic study guides; and extra reference sources such as an A-Z of Fashion and a museum directory. Available on institutional or individual subscription.
The Fashion Photography Archive
The Fashion Photography Archive contains over 600,000 high-quality images that have never before been published online, capturing iconic fashion moments from the 1970s-2000. These are fully indexed and accompanied by hundreds of articles, audio, and video resources from expert commentators. The Chief Curator and Editor-in-Chief of the archive is Dr Valerie Steele.
Fairchild Books Library
Established in 1910 and used by students and professionals worldwide, Fairchild Books is one of the world's leading publishers of educational resources in fashion and textiles. Under Bloomsbury Fashion Central, Fairchild Books' growing collection of textbooks is available digitally on institutional subscription - as the Fairchild Books Library. In addition to the texts, the Library delivers instant access to teaching and learning resources specific to each book, such as lesson plans, quizzes, flashcards, videos and timelines.
Bloomsbury Fashion Central is an online platform that will consist of Fairchild Books fashion textbooks, the Fashion Photography Archive, and Berg Fashion Library. For the first time ever Fairchild Books is offering fully integrated and interactive ancillary materials, called STUDIOs, that will consist of self-quizzes with scored results and personalized study tips, flashcards with terms/definitions and image identification, videos, case studies, projects and activities, downloadable files, and timelines. These rich and robust resources are free for students with the purchase of a new textbook + STUDIO access card bundle.
The site has been tested using Internet Explorer (version 10 onwards), Safari (version 7 onwards), and the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome, on PC, Mac and mobile operating systems. We will continue to monitor usage from different browsers and platforms and revise our list of actively supported browsers and devices accordingly.
